Charles is a graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady, New York.


In 1969 he entered and served three years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps.  Among other things, he was trained in electronics, in telecommunications maintenance, and in special forces as a scout-sniper in forced recon.  Charles was honorably discharged in April 1972.  This icon links to the official USMC website.


In November 1977, Charles authored and implemented an online Bulletin Board System (BBS) called Access-80.  It operated on a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I, Level II microcomputer.  Its purpose was to provide an email system for local computer enthusiasts.  It was placed online in East Greenbush, New York.  Shortly after, it was concurrently placed online in Schenectady, New York.  In 1982, Charles moved from the Albany, New York area to Nashua, New Hampshire, and so did Access-80.  Charles's Nashua Access-80 setup is shown at the left.  It was not long before it was concurrently online in Londonderry as well as Nashua.  Access-80 was online until 1987.


Later, Charles earned a Paralegal/Legal Assistant certificate from Blackstone School of Law.  This icon links to their website.


Charles then earned an Associate of Arts, summa cum laude, in Liberal Studies from New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire.  He continued on to complete his Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in Human Services, also at New England College.  This icon links to NEC's website.


He completed his graduate studies at the McGregor School of Antioch University, earning his Master of Arts in Psychology.  Charles's master's thesis was titled Rehabilitating Incarcerated Criminal Offenders: The Change Process.  This icon links to Antioch's website.


Charles is a trained, certified Lead Facilitator for the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP).  He has remained involved with AVP-NH since 1993.  He has been its website administrator since April 1999.  He was the organization's secretary from November 1999 until April 2001.  Since November 2000 he has taken on the responsibility of being the organization's State Coordinator.  Charles has facilitated workshops in New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Nigeria.
